Finland: Helsinki tests new technology for the elderly

Helsinki, 14 February, 2006 — In Finland, the city of Helsinki is testing new technology and developing new devices at its Kustaankartano nursing home. The purpose of the technology is to increase the independence of old people and make living at home easier. The city has allocated over EUR 650,000 for the project. Within the programme, for example, sensors will be installed in the rooms of the aged inhabitants to monitor their movement.
