Helsinki, 17 March, 2006 — Elisa Makes a Large-Scale Investment in the Renewal of the National Telecommunications Network

Elisa has launched a renewal of its national telecommunications network. The goal of the renewal is to offer private and corporate customers more efficient telecommunications connections and more versatile services. The new wider and securer network will allow higher connection speeds and faster broadband services. In the future the speed of private user connections, among others, will be tripled to even 24 megabits per second.

The renewal of the telecommunications network comprises renewal of the technology and equipment of Elisa’s whole broadband and backbone network. In addition, a new telecommunications networks monitoring system will be introduced, which will make network maintenance and the monitoring of the quality of services more efficient. The network renewal continues Elisa’s investments thanks to which the speeds of broadband connections have increased continuously and the availability of broadband connections has become more extensive in Finland.

As a leading player in the broadband market Elisa invests significantly in new generation technology and services. “With the renewals now implemented Elisa wants to develop the capacity of its networks to correspond to the requirements of newer, more versatile services,“ says director Tapio Karjalainen from Elisa.

Renewal to Reach Various Parts of Finland in Stages

The renewal of the telecommunications network will proceed by area. The renewal will begin in Helsinki in March. In the Tampere, Jyväskylä, Riihimäki and Joensuu areas the renewal will begin in April–May, and the project will gain nation-wide scope in June.
