R&D news

Helsinki, 15 June, 2005 — An international consortium led by Dutch TNO plans to build Automated People and Goods Movers (APGM) in Helsinki airport, in Finland, and in Rome, in Italy. Finnish Techvilla is involved in designing the systems.

The APGM system that will connect Helsinki airport and the Aviapolis area near the airport will cost about EUR 35.5mn. At first, a 3.5 kilometre-long network will be built between the flight terminals, car parks and the Technopolis technology centre. Later the network will be expanded to Aviapolis, airport hotels and the shopping centre Jumbo.

It is planned that the APGM will be in use in 2008. According to estimates, the APGM will carry 6,600 people daily in 2025.
