3G phones will become common most rapidly in Italy and in the UK, as operators market them fiercely. 3G will be slowest to take off in Finland and Belgium. In Europe, on average 55% of the population lives within the 3G service area. In Finland, only one fifth of the population lives within 3G service area.
Operators and mobile phone manufacturers were interviewed for Forrester's survey. Three thirds of the respondents did not believe that consumers were very interested in 3G services.
