Elmer 5.0 is a finite element based computational tool for multiphysics problems containing physical models for fluid dynamics, structural mechanics, electromagnetics, and heat transfer, etc. The program has been developed at CSC, the Finnish IT center for science over the past 10 years and has now been released as open source software under the GNU General Public License. The main purpose of the new licence is to ease the national and international use, and to enlarge the user community of Elmer.
The licensing covers all parts of the software: ElmerFront, ElmerSolver, ElmerPost, and ElmerGrid. In addition to the new open source license, the new release makes Elmer easier to compile on a wide range of platforms and compilers using generic programming tools. There are also new precompiled binaries, ready to install on Linux, Windows, and Unix systems. For more information, see Elmer's download page.
Source, binaries, documentation, tutorials, and examples can be found at Elmer's homepage.
