Finland: 64% of phone calls made from mobiles in 2004

Helsinki, 30 August, 2005 — According to Statistics Finland, mobile phone calls accounted for 64% of all phone calls, and nearly half of call minutes in Finland, in 2004. A total of 3.8bn phone calls were made from mobile phones in 2004, representing an increase of 12% from 2003. A total of 2.1bn phone calls were made from local fixed-line networks in 2004, down by 14% from 2003.

The total duration of mobile phone calls increased by 18% to 9.6bn minutes. Call minutes in local fixed-line networks totaled 11.4bn minutes.

A total of 2.2bn text messages were sent in 2004, representing an increase of 33% from 2003.

In the end of 2004, there were 96 mobile phone subscriptions per 100 inhabitants, and 46 fixed-line subscriptions per 100 inhabitants. The number of DSL subscriptions increased by 75% during 2004.
